Forsyth:
Jack Owen Jasper, born 23 Jul 1924, was the eldest child of
Garfield
(Sharkey) and Perceil Jasper. He had a brother Glen
and sister June. Jack met his high school sweetheart
Mae Cooper (43-208) at SHS. Jack was fond of Samoyed dogs
and on occasion during cold, starry nights,
would hitch
the dogs to his homemade dogsled and take Mae by dogsled
to Port Dover and back.
Jack enlisted in the army. He was in No. 16 Platoon "D"
Coy. No. 20 C.I. (B) T.C.-C.A. around March 1944. By June 1944
he was in Camp Borden with No. 4 Company A 10 C.I.T.C.
He saw action in Europe and was wounded a number of times.
After the war he returned home and married Mae on
10 Oct 1946.
They had four children: Margaret, Nancy, Richard and Patricia.
Jack joined Ontario Hydro and worked with them until his death.
He also registered and started a kennel, called Glenhurst, with
plans to raise and show Samoyed dogs.
Jack was ill for several
years, diagnosed with what was a rare disease, periarteritisnodosa
-- an inflammation of small and medium sized arteries.
He passed away 8
May 1963.
