John arrived in the Turkey Point area with his father in 1808, and married Thursa Mahala Abbott in 1827. They raised 14 children in a house on the beach at Turkey Point. John and most of his children were fishermen or married to fishermen. His children married into the Ferris, Oakes, Wells, Spain, Helmer, Larose, Staley, Snook, Low, Clark and Morden families.
