They farmed south of Vanessa, James taught at what would become School Section 2, Windham, and with Squire Ball and Roger Clement was responsible for the foundation of Vanessa Methodist Church about 1854. Their son Dan was a young man when killed about 1871. Their daughter Mrs. Ed. Knight died a few years ago. Their daughter Mrs. Catherine Courtnage of Boston survives.
