Norfolk's most prominent citizen
passed away suddenly and unexpectedly last Friday, March 31, at 9 o'clock.
Colonel Tisdale had been in failing health for some months, being
afflicted with arterial sclerosis. His illness, however, was not of such a
nature as to confine him even in the house, and on pleasant days he was to
be seen driving around town, looking very little like an invalid. The news
of the fatal termination of his malady therefore came as a shock to the
entire community.
He leaves a widow, Sarah
A.,
daughter of the late James Walker, of Woodhouse; two sons, W. [E].
Tisdale, registrar of Norfolk, who is on shipboard somewhere in the West
India seas; D. R. Tisdale, of Wyoming, U.S.A., and two daughters, Mrs.
Boultbee, of Simcoe, and Mrs. Canfield, of New York.
The funeral on Monday afternoon
from Trinity Church was attended by representative citizens from all parts
of Norfolk. The service was conducted by Rev. Canon Hicks, assisted by a
full choir in charge of Professor Wilkinson.
The pallbearers were C. C.
Rapleje, Judge Wells,
A. McCall, M.P., H. H. Groff, H. P. Innes, M.P.P.,
and F. Reid.
The Board of Education and the Town Council attended.
Business were suspended in town. Among others present were Hon. W. A.
Charlton, Toronto; J. G. Boyd, of Morrisburg; David Price, editor of the
Aylmer Express; A. C. Pratt, M.P.P., H. A. and A. R. Boultbee, of Toronto.
Interment took place in the family plot in Oakwood Cemetery.
