Esteemed Simcoe Man Was
Prominent in
Apple Industry, Fair Board
Last surviving member of one of Norfolk's most illustrious families, David
Robb Tisdale succumbed to a week's illness at his home, Norfolk street
south, shortly before noon on Wednesday.
Mr. Tisdale was taken ill about a
week ago but his condition did not become serious until last weekend. He
was in his 71st year.
In his passing Simcoe and Norfolk
county mourn the loss of a man who was universally esteemed and admired.
Of a quiet and unassuming temperment, he nevertheless has scores of
friends to whom his passing is a distinct loss.
Robb Tisdale was born in Simcoe,
the son of the Hon. David Tisdale, K.C., P.C., and Sarah Araminta Walker.
He was the last to survive of a family which included William Edgett
Tisdale who died in 1914, Mrs. Margaret Boultbee and Mrs. Meta Canfield
who died in 1932 and 1929, and Christie, a sister who died in infancy.
As a young man he was a keen
athlete and distinguished himself in many branches of sports. After
receiving his education here he went to Wyoming when that state was part
of the tradition of the old west. There he managed his father's large
ranch for many years, returning to Simcoe in the winters.
Eventually he returned to Simcoe
to make his home and became interested in the apple industry, acquiring
land in Charlotteville, and he became one of the leaders in what was for
many years this district's premier industry.
In later years he was an erergetic
member of the Norfolk Agricultural Society and held the offices of
director and vice-president at various times. He was a member of the
Phoenix Club.
He is survived by his widow, the
former Vera Curtis. David E. W. Tisdale, Simcoe barrister is a nephew, and
the following are nieces: Mrs. P. L. Park, Miss Gwendolyn Canfield and the
Misses Margaret and Barabarn [sic] Boultbee, all of Simcoe.
The funeral will be held tomorrow
(Friday) afternoon from his late residence with interment in Oakwood
Cemetery.
