Jessie
Campbell, widow of the late John Y. King, passed away at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. C. O. Macdonald, on Friday, May 28.
The deceased was born in the
year 1854 at [Erri]chill Farm, near Aberteidy, Perthshire, Scotland.
Since coming to Canada in 1880 Mr. and Mrs. King had lived in the
Township of Woodhouse, until they came to Port Dover fifteen years
ago.
The deceased is survived by
five sons, M. James of Detroit; Robert H. of Penticton, B.C.; Sam L.
of Simcoe; John C. of Woodhouse; and Edwin D. of Pontiac, Mich.; and
one daughter, Mrs. C. O. Macdonald of Port Dover. An older daughter,
Mrs. Walter J. Gunton of Hamilton, passed away some few years ago, and
a son, Willie, died in infancy.
Also surviving are two
sisters, Mrs. K. Falls of Hamilton, and Miss Jean Campbell of
Aberfeidy, the latter having arrived a month ago from Scotland to
visit her sisters.
The funeral took place on
Thursday, at 4 p.m. from her late residence, St. George Street, to
Oakwood Cemetery, Simcoe. The service was conducted by her pastor,
Rev. Charles Perkins of Grace United Church, Rev. D. J. Cornish and
Rev. D. MacInnes.
The pall-bearers were J. H.
Misner, John Walker, W. R. Shand, J. R. Waddle, Captain Robinson and
Captain E. Bailey. A profusion of beautiful flowers testified to the
high esteem in which the deceased was held.
