"A native of Charlotteville. After several years on farm, came to Simcoe in 1877 and in 1878 went into partnership with John Madden in plumbing, heating and dairy supplies business. Built the present 5-10-15¢ store building.  Keenly interested in municipal affairs.  President of Agricultural Society for several years. Died in 1902, aged 56 years."
