Citizen of Simcoe

Rev. Richard Hicks, B.A., B.D.
"Late Canon of the Diocese of Huron, Dean of Norfolk, and Rector of Trinity Church, Simcoe.
Born in Bienheim, Ontario, in 1851. Died in Simcoe on April 21st, 1914. He came to Simcoe in 1891 to fill the vacancy in Trinity Church caused by the death of the Rev. John Gemley. In 1909 he was elevated to the dignity of Canon, and for nearly a decade he was Clerical Secretary of the Synod of Huron. The paragraph from The Simcoe Reformer at the time of his decease, indicates the high esteem in which he was held by his fellow townspeople: "It is indulging in no exaggeration to say that no death in Simcoe has called forth such universal expressions of regret. Had a poll of the people of Simcoe been taken as to who was the most beloved man in the community, it is all but a foregone conclusion that Canon Hicks would have received more votes than all the other possibilities put together."
