Circa 1924 Citizen of Simcoe, Ontario |
A. J. Donly "Born in Craigie, Ireland, on June 19th, 1834. Left Ireland at the age of seventeen and worked his passage to Canada. Spent the first summer in Quebec, taught school at Merrickville and came to Simcoe in 1857, where he taught in the public school. In 1872 he purchased The Simcoe Reformer from Reuben Thorogood and disposed of it to his son, H. B. Donly, 1881. In 1884 he was appointed Registrar on the death of Francis L. Walsh. His connection with the Methodist Church dated back to 1858, and for fully forty years he was superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School. Mr. Donly died on March 19th, 1908." Also see: Henry S.
