This is a scan of photo of the students attending Terrace Hill School in Waterford in1919. Researcher Howard Ray Lawrence of Mokelumne, California, the owner of this photo, emailed us the scan 26 Sep 2010. The original photo was taken by E. S. B. Moore of Simcoe.

Howard could identify only two people in this photograph, his mother student Ida May Sharp and the school's owner and principal, O. U. Robinson.

Terrace Hill was a post-secondary business school that taught bookkeeping, typewriting, etc. to future office employees. In some instances Terrace Hill may have been an alternative to senior high school, particularly for those returning from World War I, or for those in a rush to secure office employment.

See a letter from Mr. Robinson on Terrace Hill stationary recommending Miss Sharp to prospective employers.

Our identifications of those in the photo should be considered tentative until confirmed via multiple sources. Generally speaking, the older the "last updated" date on each bio web page, the higher our confidence that the identification is correct.

Students in this photo were presumably born circa 1900, and presumably lived or boarded in Waterford while attending Terrace Hill School. Judging by the overcoats worn by some students, we assume this photo was taken in the Fall of 1919.
