| Robert
Monro is said to have came to America with Donald McCall as a British
soldier during the Seven Years War and subsequently settled
in New Jersey after mustering out. Thirty two years later Donald and
his family immigrated to the Long Point Settlement of Upper Canada.
Robert, his wife and a son stayed in New Jersey and died there. But
three of their sons came to Norfolk, as did the eldest daughter of
William, the son who stayed in New Jersey.
There is reason to question this family lore, however. Son William's
will says he was born in Scotland. To merge that with family lore,
Robert presumably would have had to return to Scotland at the end of
his military service, stayed there a year or so, then returned to
America. That's possible, given the seven years between the
births of his first and second sons, but has not yet been
documented.
* This list of children is incomplete as Robert had at least three daughters, none of whom
came to Canada. |
