Notes: John H. Backhouse and his first wife Margaret Longbottom immigrated to New Jersey in 1791. In 1794 they moved to what is now Lincoln County, Ontario.  In 1797 he and his second wife settled in  Walsingham Township. John was a prominent pioneer settler. He was a captain in the Norfolk Miltia and a pioneer Justice of the Peace.
