Bernice Hilliard signed the Doan's Hollow Promotion List,
published in 6 Jul 1939 issue of the Simcoe Reformer, which became the basis for the first
student lists
below. The second list was developed by Joe Kelly and Linda Russell in an
attempt to identify as many people in the photo as possible. The
third was developed after a telephone conversation with Ruth Shoff
Tharrington.
In the late 1930s it was not usually for rural families to pull their
children out of school for economic reasons before the end of the school
year, ensuring they were not promoted. The numbers following student
names in the Reformer list are the grades attended that year.
Ideally, the three columns below
would be identical.
