This scan was emailed to us by Clarence Morris who identified it as "of the maintenance crew at the army camp in Wellington Heights during WW2." (Wellington Heights is now in the north end of Simcoe.)

Clarence reports only two of the fellows in the photo are identified on the back of the undated photo: his uncle in the lower left corner and the fellow sitting next to him.

The sign over their heads in this photo reads: "Royal Canadian Engineers Office."

The civilians in the first row are obviously older than the soldiers standing behind them. We suspect the civilians were local residents, but can not be sure the younger soldiers were also locals. Possibly civilian employees were assigned a soldier for orders and communications and we are looking at five such pairings.

Who took this photograph and why are not unknown by us. Perhaps a site visitor more aware of the camp's history will be able to fill in some of these blanks in the weeks ahead.
