The two
years that have elapsed since the Monocle was last published in
1949 have wrought many changes in our school.
The New Wing, tenatively
planned at that time has been completed and occupied for almost
two years.
The high schools of
Simcoe and Port Dover have been merged into the Simcoe District
High School, and the number of students from the rural areas has
increased to the extent that our attendance, largely urban four
years ago, is now almost equally urban and rural.
Such an arrangement
should be ideal for fostering friendship and mutual
understanding between the members of the two groups and
realization that town and country are mutually interdependent.
The emergence of the
Monocle -- after its lengthy dormant period, is I believe, an
indication that our school has now achived a unity of spirit and
purpose that augurs well for its future.
To the Editor, the
Staff, and Staff advisors of the Monocle, whose perseverence and
hard work has made its publication possible, the School Board
extends its appreciation and congratulations.
May we also extend our
congratulations to our students who are completing their studies
this year and wish them every success.
Success not only in
their private careers but also as Canadian citizens, for each of
us can and should make some contribution to the betterment of
our country and community, both have done a great deal for us.
We on our part should strive to repay our indebtedness.
W. A.
HAMMOND, Chairman,
Simcoe District High School Board.
