Neck Broken, But He Lives

While driving along on a load of hay last Saturday, Alonzo Vanclief, aged 45, of Mabee's Corners, was suddenly thrown to the road when his horses bolted.

He landed on his head and broke his neck. He can neither swallow nor talk, his legs however, are not paralyzed.

He was taken to the emergency hospital in Tillsonburg, where he was attended by Dr. Bennett. It was discovered that the two nerves which control the ability to swallow and to talk were crushed and the X-ray revealed a broken neck. It is very doubtful whether he will live long.
