The Late Wm. Pretty

The late Wm. Pretty, who died at the residence of his grandson, Mr. V. Jarvis in Townsend, on 26 Feb 1921, aged 97 years, was one of the oldest residents of the County of Norfolk.

Until recently he was a very active and ambitious man. Since reaching the age of 90 years, deceased had made two trips to Saskatchewan. In his early manhood the late Mr. Pretty thought little of waking 50 miles in a day.

He came to Kelvin and hewed out a home for himself and family, and since that time had resided nearly all his life there, with the exception of a few years residence in London.

He was known to cradle five acres of wheat in a day, and cut more wood when 60 years of age than men at 30 years of age would in a day. At 70 years of age he could cut over 100 shocks of corn as an average day's work. He saw the coming of the telephone, the automobile, and airship and his remark was "Wonderful." Truly it can be said he was a remarkable man.

Deceased leaves to mourn his loss four daughters and two sons. The daughters are:
Mrs. J. Munn of Windham Centre,
Mrs. L. Reames of Michigan,
Mrs. E. Broughton of Toronto,
Mrs. F. Billo of Townsend.
The sons are Daniel of Utah and John of Saskatchewan.

The funeral on Tuesday, 1 Mar 1921, was largely attended. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Daniel, George and Ashton Munn of Windham, William and Vern Jarvis of Townsend, all grandsons, and Frank Billo of Townsend, son-in-law.

The sympathy of the whole community goes out to his sorrowing family.
