Port Rowan

Miss Kate Barrett passed away at her home in this village at a little after seven o'clock Monday night, a victim of acute Bright's disease, and by her death Port Rowan has suffered a distinct loss.

Miss Barrett had an attack of this ailment a couple of years ago, but overcame it. She was in her usual health up till last Friday, when she was again attacked, and notwithstanding the best medical skill and the care of her sister-in-law, Mrs. A. P. Barrett, an excellent trained nurse, she gradually grew worse until the end came.

Deceased was the youngest daughter of the late Mark W. Barrett. Her only sister, Mrs. Walker, died several years ago. She is survived by one brother, Mr. A. P. Barrett of Port Royal, and a nephew, Arthur Walker of Boston, Mass.

Miss Barrett acted for her brother as division court clerk here for a number of years, occupying her comfortable and costly furnished home. She was a generous and kindly friend to every one. Her position gained for her a large acquaintance in the vicinity and her death will be lamented by many.

The funeral was held from the house on Thursday, conducted by the Rev. H. Smith of the Anglican Church. Burial took place in the family plot in Port Royal Cemetery.
