John Edgar Yocom, Deputy Reeve of Dunnville
(Dunnville Chronicle)

John Edgar Yocom was born in Waterford in 1881, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Yocom. He attended the public and high schools in Waterford, afterwards taking up tailoring with Mr. H. A. Horning, who later acquired the Adam Zimmerman business in Hamilton.

After serving his apprenticeship he was employed in London, Ontario and Grand Rapids, Michigan, and came to Dunnville in 1900.

For five years he was with R. N. Killins, and then purchased the tailoring business of J. A. Holrod and R. J. Laidlaw. Some years later he added a line of gent's furnishings, but at the outbreak of the war he disposed of his branch and has since confined his attention to tailoring exclusively. At first he occupied premises in the Scott Block, later the Victoria black, and in 1912 he purchased his present store block.

Mr. Yocom has for many years been identified with Live Oak Hose Co., and Masonic Order in all its branches, being a Past Master of Amity Lodge No. 32, Past First Principal of McCallum Chapter. 29, Past Preceptor of St. Bernard de Clairveaus Preceptory No. 19, Dunnville, and a member of Rameses Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., Toronto. Last January he was elected Deputy-Reeve of Dunnville by acclamation.

He has always taken an active interest in the affairs of Dunnville Baptist Church, at present holding the position of clerk. Every man has a hobby, and "Jack's" is pure bred poultry. He was a director of the Dunnville Poultry Association.

Mr. Yocom, while not a native born, has been here 20 years, has an unbounded faith in Dunnville's future, and any movement that has for its object the advancement of the interests of this town has his whole hearted support.

Mrs. Yocom is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Pyle, and their two children, Jack, aged 10, and Helen, aged 3, intend to be Shriners.
