Whitside-MacDonald
The home of Mrs. Mary E.
Whitside, 120 Colborne Street, was the scene of a pretty wedding
on Friday, 3 Sep 1920, when her eldest daughter, Evelyn
Mary, was united in marriage to Douglas J. MacDonald of Utica,
N.Y.
The bridal party entered
the drawing room to the strains of Lohengrin's wedding march,
played by Miss Genevieve Freeman of Hamilton.
The colonial stairway and
hall were decorated with smilax and white ribbon, forming an aisle
to the drawing room fireplace, banked with ferns and yellow
helenium.
The bride, who was given
away by her brother, Bruce Whitside, wore a beautiful French gown
of ivory satin with rhinestone and French flower trimmings, and
the conventional tulle and orange blossom veil and carried a
shower bouquet of white and sweetheart roses.
She was attended by her
sister, Miss Pauline Whitside, bridesmaid, who wore a gown of
sunset satin trimmed with silver braid, carrying a bouquet of
roses. The bridegroom was assisted by Geo. Stedman of Brantford.
After the ceremony a
buffet luncheon was served to about 60 guests in the dining room,
which was decorated in rainbow shades of satin and tulle. The
bridegroom's gift to the bride was a platinum and diamond bar pin,
to the bridesmaid a cameo ring, to the pianist a bar pin of
pearls.
The happy couple left for
Montreal and the Adirondacks, the bride wearing a travelling suit
of golden-tone velour with a hat to match.
The out-of-town guests
included:
Archibald MacDonald and daughters of Utica, N.Y.;
Mrs. Freeman and family, Dr. Park, Mr. B. Campbell, Mrs. Silcox
and Miss Ward of Hamilton;
Mr. and Mrs. Heath and family, Miss Hargreave,
Miss Adair and Mrs. Bannister of Delhi;
Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Scott, the Misses Hart,
Miss Raymond, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Read,
Mrs. Duncombe and Mrs. Stedman of Brantford;
and Miss Ferol Birdsell of Cayuga.
On their return Mr. and
Mrs. MacDonald will reside in Brantford.
