Lakeside Pair 55 Years Wed

Mr. and Mrs. George Vokes of First Avenue, Port Dover, are marking the 55th anniversary of their marriage in a very quiet manner today. Mr. Vokes enjoys good health, but Mrs. Vokes has been poorly for some time.

Their wedding was solemnized on 6 Jan 1892, at the bride's home by Rev. Charles Morrow of Jarvis Methodist Church and the attendants were Mrs. Robert McMillan of Port Dover and the late Mr. McMillan.

Mrs. Vokes, who was 76 last July, was formerly Miss Martha Walker of Nanticoke, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Walker of Port Dover. She has one half-sister living, Mrs. Gordon Butler of Nanticoke.

Mr. Vokes, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Vokes of Nanticoke, celebrated his 82nd birthday on 4 Dec 1946. He has three brothers, Thomas and John of Port Dover and David of Nanticoke; and three sisters,
Mrs. William Tucker of Toronto, Mrs. Robert McMillan and Mrs. E. Vokes of Port Dover.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Vokes resided for many years on their farm near Nanticoke, retiring 16 years ago, and moving to Port Dover, where they have since lived. They have three sons, Norman Vokes of Chicago, Arthur and Kenneth Vokes of Nanticoke; also six grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Vokes have been valued members of Grace United Church, the latter having been active in the work of women's organization until ill health prevented.
