Died near
Burford.
Edward Pettit, who died last week, was one of the old residents
of this neighborhood. He was born at Chippewa, where in early
manhood he followed lumbering. After moving to and back again from
the United States, he settled near here and farmed up to a few
years ago, when he went to live with his youngest daughter, Mrs.
Cotton.
Mr. Pettit was married in 1856 to Miss Rogers of Chippewa.
Their union was blessed with eight children, all of whom survive.
They are: George of Scotland, Edward of Simcoe, Mrs. Wm. Howey of
Waterford, Samuel of Muskegon, Michigan, James and Herbert of
Waterford, Mrs. F. B. Lefler of Grand View, and
Mrs. W. F. Cotton of Burford Road.
Mr. Pettit began to fail a few weeks ago, and was attacked by a
paralytic stroke, as a result of which he was taken off.
Floral tributes were, among others, from
Mr. and Mrs. Cotton, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Pettit,
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pettit, Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Lefler,
Mrs. Clara Woodley.
Pallbears were sons and sons-in-law of the deceased.
