WEDDING
BELLS
Miller-Alin
An Ostrander correspondent
writes:
A very pleasing event took place on Wed., 18 May 1910 at 11:30
a.m., at "Happy Retreat," the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
A. Allin of Dereham, it being the marriage of their only daughter,
Edith Mabel, to Mr. Ira Miller of Simcoe.
The bride entered the
drawing room leaning upon the arm of her father, while the strains
of Wagner's "Chorus from Lohengrin," on the violin and
piano were played by Mrs. Chas. Sinden and Mr. J. C. Allin. The
ceremony was performed by the Rev. D. G. DeFoe, in the presence of
about 90 guests. The couple took their places beneath an arch
decked with carnations.
The bride was daintily
attired in a gown of white swiss embroidery, trimmed with maltese
lace and insertion and carried a bouquet of cream roses. The
little flower girl, Miss Dorothy Allin of Woodstock, cousin of the
bride, was dressed in pink silk, and carried a basket of pink
carnations and ferns.
While congratulations were
being offered, suitable music was rendered, after which the guests
repaired to the dining room, where a sumptuous repast was partaken
of. Eight of the bride's most intimate girl friends, dressed in
white, acted as waiters.
Among the numerous and
valuable presents received was a handsome cheque from the bride's
parents, and some valuable pieces of Haviland china from the
Sunday School class of which she was a member. The groom's
gift to the bride was a handsome cheque, to the pianist a
gold broach, and the the flower girl a gold [......] set with
brilliants.
The young couple left amid
showers of confetti for Toronto, thence to Evanston, Ill., the
bride travelling in a navy blue suit with hat to match. Upon their
return they will take up their residence in Simcoe.
Mrs. Miller is one of
Dereham's most popular young ladies and will be greatly missed
from the Church, Sunday School and Epworth League, on account of
the active interest which she took in all these departments of
church work. Her noble spirit, impartial deportment and sterling
character have made her a general favorite in the community.
Mr. Miller is an exemplary
young man, well and favorably known in the community. The best
wishes of the many friends of the young couple will follow them
through life.
Guests were present from
Woodstock, Kinglake, Lynedoch, Delmer, Port Burwell, Lyons,
Ingersoll and Tillsonburg.
