Death of Mrs.
Margaret Kenney
The late Margaret Kenney,
who passed peacefully away on 15 Jun 1921 at the advanced age of 96
years 10 months was one of the pioneers of Norfolk, coming to this
country with her parents, Peter and Margaret Donaldson, when about
eight years old.
She was born in Methol,
Kinross Shire, Scotland in 1824 and crossed the ocean with her
parents at the age of seven years. They resided near New York for a
time. When they came to Townsend this part of the country was
unbroken forest. They bought the farm known as the old Mason farm
where her father and mother died.
At the age of 22 she married
her late husband, Nathan Kenney, who predeceased her 15 years ago.
Six children were born of the union, of which five are still living:
Miss Minnis of Detroit; Joseph of Parry Sound; James, Mrs. Wilson
Woodley and Mrs. Lincoln Clark of Waterford.
Her early life was one of
toil and sacrifice. She and her husband made a comfortable home near
Rockford where they resided until about 30 years ago, when they
moved to Waterford, leaving one of the sons on the farm. She was a
loving and devoted wife and mother, a life long member of the
church.
She had been about to be
about until the last four years, but had been confined to her bed
since the middle of December, gradually growing weaker until she
passed peacefully away.
The funeral service was
conducted by her pastor, Rev. H. Wilkins, assisted by Rev. J. B.
Moore. The sermon was based on the text "Thou shalt come to
they grave in a full age, like as a shock of corm cometh in his
season.
Job 5:16. Two favorite old hymns of the deceased were sweetly
rendered by the ladies Quartette of the Methodist Church.
