Death
Severs 71-Year Union
A union of more than 71
years was severed yesterday in the death in Forestville of Elon
Hoover, one of Norfolk County's oldest residents, who passed away
in his 96th year.
He had been in failing
health for the past few months, although he was able to be about
the house on Saturday.
A native of Haldimand
County, the late Mr. Hoover was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Jesse Hoover.
He married the former
Annie Dell, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Dell of
Charlotteville, who survives him. The ceremony was performed in
Vittoria on
23 Nov 1875, Mr. and Mrs. Hoover marking their 71st anniversary
last November.
Following the marriage,
they resided in Selkirk for a year, and in St. Williams for three
years, after which they moved to Forestville.
A blacksmith by trade, Mr.
Hoover retired from this work 38 years ago. He was a farm
machinery agent for a number of years, retiring 21 years ago from
active work, with the exception of assisting in the store of his
son, the Jesse Hoover, the store now being operated by his
daughter, Miss Edna Hoover.
Besides his wife, he is
survived by two daughters, Miss Edna Hoover and Mrs. Charles
Reeves of Forestville; one sister, Mrs. J. B. Blackman of Selkirk,
who is 97 years of age; six grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held
from his late residence on Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock
with Rev. A. J. Fletcher of Forestville Baptist Church
officiating. Interment will be in the Johnson Cemetery at St.
Williams.
