HON. PETER GILBERT DEAD
 
A Former Prominent Norfolk Man Passes Away at Advanced Age 
in Michigan

Hon. Peter Gilbert died on Thursday last, 11th inst., at the home of his daughter, 
Mrs. John Trabbie, in Sterling, Michigan.

He was the eldest son of the late Squire John W. Gilbert of Woodhouse, where he as born and lived until 1884, when he moved to the neighboring State of Michigan.

He was married on 5 Aug 1868 to Henrietta J., daughter of the late D. D. Freeman of Windham. To this union were born two sons and three daughters. One son, William, died in 1888. The others survive and are: John Edwin of Seattle, and Mrs. Trabbie and Mrs. Knight, both of Sterling.

Of the family of the late Squire Gilbert of Woodhouse, there are now one daughter, Mrs. William Collver, and two sons, Albert of Woodhouse, and Dr. Frank, of Bay City, still alive.

Very soon after Peter Gilbert moved to Michigan he began to take an active part in public affairs, and he filled many important positions. 

He served four years as State Senator and was at the time of his death State Supervisor of Townships and State Speaker of the Michigan Agricultural College, and a member of the Board of the Michigan Grange. 

He was, when he died, in his 77th year. The funeral took place on Saturday in Sterling, his remains being laid to rest beside those of his wife, who predeceased him six years.
