Waterford
Another of the oldest
residents of Waterford, Mary E. Clouse [sic], relict of the late Lewis
Beam, departed this life in her 86th year, at her home here Tuesday,
22 Mar 1921.
Deceased was possessed of a
wonderfully vigorous constitution. An evidence of her great vitality
is the fact that she had been afflicted with stomach trouble for a
long time, and during the last two weeks of her illness her death
was expected almost hourly.
The late Mrs. Beam was the
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Clouse [sic] and was born on the
old Clouse [sic] homestead just east of Greenwood Cemetery and had lived
all her life in this vicinity.
In the year 1856 the
deceased was united in marriage to the late Lewis Beam, who died in
1883. This union was blessed with a family of two daughters, Mrs. T.
B. Tobin and Mrs. Asher Henderson of Waterford, who survive their
mother.
The deceased was a
consistent member of the Methodist Church for 40 or more years.
The funeral took place 25
Mar 1921. The services were conducted by Rev. H. Wilkins, assisted
by Rev. J. B. Moore. Interment took place in Greenwood
Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Col. I.
E. York, Henry Serles,
L. L. Sovereign, D. P. Caley, R. D. Gibson, T. D. Duncombe.
Those from a distance
attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Tobin of Toronto, Mr.
and Mrs. J. Blanchard and Mr. T. A. Brown of St. Thomas, Mr. and
Mrs. James McNeilly of St. George.
