Death
of Mrs. J. H. Butler
After an illness extending
over 18 months from goitre and heart trouble, and after all that
medical skill and loving hands could do for the alleviation of her
suffering,
Mary Jane Catherwood, beloved wife of Mr. J. H. Butler, passed
away at the family home, 83 Colborne Street South, on Sunday
morning, 25 Jul 1920 at 7 o'clock.
Deceased was born in
Walpole, Haldimand County, 4 Sep 1863, and was in her 57th year.
Besides the sorrowing
husband, there are left to mourn the loss of a faithful wife and
loving mother, three daughters and a son:
Mrs. Vernon Potts, Glen Rock, Wyoming,
Mrs. Jesse Firby, Simcoe,
Miss Gladys at home, and
Gordon J., Simcoe.
Harold,
the youngest son, died 11 Oct 1918 in a Toronto hospital, from
pneumonia, developing from influenza, whilst in training as a
member of the Royal Flying Arm, from the shock of which his mother
never fully recovered.
The funeral was held
Tuesday afternoon to Oakwood Cemetery, the services at the home
and graveside being in charge of Rev. H. C. Newcombe, of whose
church deceased had been a willing and zealous worker.
Many were the friends that
attended the service at the house to pay their last respects. The
pallbearers were: Robert Catherwood and Thomas Catherwood
(brothers), Adam Gow and John Bresette (brothers-in-law), Robert
Catherwood (cousin), and Geo. Butler.
