Death of John Anderson

Mr. John Anderson of Townsend died in Brantford Hospital on Thursday of last week, aged 77 years. He was born in Brant County in 1844 but lived nearly all his life in Townsend, and on John street for 47 years.

A widow, three sons and three daughters survive. They are John F., and Raymnd E., of Townsend; Dr. Cecil F. of Simcoe; Erie at home; Mrs. E. W. Gray of Los Angeles; and Mrs. Geo. Arnold of Townsend.

AHe was a member of the Masons, Odd Fellows, Foresters and Orangemen and for many years a very regular attendant at the lodges. There was always a kindly handshake for his brethren.

He was a man of generous impulses, and never forgot the hospitable ways of the pioneer. The stranger, even though a beggar, never failed to find shelter and food if he sought it at his hands, and he was at home by the bedside of the sick and delighted in all kinds of neighborly offices. He had borne adversity bravely and enjoyed prosperity quietly.

The funeral service was conducted by his pastor, Rev. L. H. Vail, on Sunday afternoon in the Baptist Church. The building was filled to overflowing by the large audience who came from far and near to pay their last tribute of respect. The Masonic service was conducted at both the house and grave by the members of Waterford Lodge No. 113, A.F.&A.M. Out of respect for the belove deceased brother there was a very large gathering of the order.
