Etc. -- William Zealand drowned
Introduction | Source Documents | Other Sources | Photocopies | Back

A lightly edited partial transcription of the Items of Local Interest column on page 9 of the
29 May 1919 issue of the Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

William, the five-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Zealand of Hamilton, was drowned at Port Dover on Saturday.

The family have a summer home there and were down for the holiday weekend.

Four children, three boys and a little girl, were playing about the water's edge, and the two other boys went out in a boat.

The little chap must have gotten beyond his depth, for when the brothers were brought back to the shore by the cries of the sister, he had disappeared.

Though the body was speedily recovered there was no hope of resuscitation.
