The Late John Youmans

The deceased was born in 1834 at Vittoria, Ontario. When he was three years of age his father, Christopher with his wife and family moved to
Lot No. 15, Concession 14, Townsend, Norfolk County.

He lived for eighty five years on the old farm. Both his father and himself were pioneers in this county, moving into the forest. The first night spent on Lot 15, they found some dead limbs and put them up around a tree
like an Indian wigwam and there they spent their first night in Townsend.

Deceased married Hannah Hall, who predeceased him some years ago. One son Lewis and two grandchildren are the offspring. One grandson, Berkley, paid the supreme sacrifice in France.

In early manhood he became a Christian and united with the Simcoe Baptist church. Later his membership was transferred to Tyrrell where
he remained a member until his death.

For 40 years he was a deacon of the Tyrrell Church. He was of a quiet, retiring disposition, a faithful, loving Christian, regular in his attendance upon the means of grace.

The funeral service took place on 6 Jun. After s short service at the house, the remains were borne to the Mount Zion Methodist church, where an appropriate sermon was preached by Rev. Wm. Spencer, pastor, Baptist church, Tyrrell, from the text, John 14: 37.

Interment was in the Mount Zion cemetery.
