St. Williams:
In the sudden passing at midnight on Thursday of William Wolven,
another link with pioneer days has been severed. Seventy years ago on
July 4th, the late William Wolven was born on the Front Road of
Charlotteville to Mercia Bridgeman and [Relot] Wolven.
Previous to his
marriage he worked as a fisherman at Nanticoke for the late John
Allen. Later he sailed on the old-fashioned schooners on Lake Erie.
From his union with Violeta [sic] Wedrick were born two sons,
Stanley and Harry.
Twenty-three
years ago "Cochin", as he was lovingly termed by old and
young alike removed to the village here, following the death of
his wife some years ago, he lived, working for McCall and Co. until
his death, a really skilled carpenter and painter.
The passing
leaves a real gap in the everyday life of the village. Big hearted and
a true friend, he will be missed on every side.
The late William
Wolven was a member of the United Church and loyally supported it.
Left to mourn his
loss are his two sons, Stanley at home and Harry of the village, one
sister, Mrs. James Duncan of Forestville, one brother Oliver
Wolven,
of the village and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Amarula Wedrick, who since
the death of his wife has lived at his home.
