The death of David
Wilson took place in Detroit at the home of his daughter, 4810 Fernwood
Ave., with whom Mr. and Mrs. Wilson had been living for the past two
years.
Mr. Wilson was a son of the late
James Wilson, who settled in Wilsonville nearly 100 years ago. Of a
family of 10 [only] Joseph S. of Victoria, B.C. survives.
David
Wilson was born Jul 29th, 1840. He married Wealthy Rounds of Burford,
and to them were born four children: Elmer, Josie and Wilbert, all of
Detroit, and George of Toronto, who passed away a year ago.
Mrs.
Wilson is in her 90th year and at time of writing is in very poor
health. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in December,
1930.
Several years of
their early life were spent at Wilsonville and Waterford, where Mr.
Wilson kept the Postoffice, he being the first postmaster at Waterford.
They
moved from Waterford to Brantford, where the greater part of their lives
were spent. Mr. Wilson was caretaker of Brant Ave. Church for 27 years.
Both he and Mrs. Wilson were active members of Brant Ave. Church.
He
was also a member of Wilson Lodge, Waterford, afterwared going to Doric
Lodge, A. F. & A, M., Brantford.
He
was also a member of Court Glen, C. O. O. F., Brantford.
Rev.
H. Wilson conducted the services, followed by the Masonic services. Mrs.
F. Leaming, accompanied by Mrs, E. Brooks sang "The City
Foursquare."
The many
friends in attendance and the beautiful flowers testified to the esteem
in which Mr. Wilson was held.
The
remains were accompanied to Wilsonville by Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wilson,
Mr. Wilbert Wilson and Mrs. J. W. Wilson. Those in attendance from a
distance were: Mrs. George Wilson, Toronto;
Mrs. C. Wilson, Hamilton;
Mr. and Mrs. W. Riddle, Hamilton;
also friends from Brantford, Burford, Oakland and Waterford.
