Simcoe man saves boy from drowning

Ten-year old George Harvey Jr., of Pittsburg had a narrow escape from drowning at Turkey Point on Monday morning last, and was only saved by the timely intervention of B. W. Whitside of Simcoe.

The little fellow had gone in bathing with Billy and Mary Whitside. They had waded out a considerable distance when young Harvey, who could not swim, got into difficulties.

The Whitside children, both of whom could swim, tried to assist him but he sank underneath the surface.

Cries for help reached Mr. Whitside on shore and he immediately leaped into a canoe and paddled to the spot.

Fully clothed he immediately jumped into the water and grasped the unfortunate lad just as he was going down for the third time.

In an unconscious condition, the boy was brought to shore where he was revived in a short time.

The Harvey family had but recently arrived at Turkey Point and were occupying a cottage near that owned by Mr. Whitside.
