Death of Mr. W. H. Watts
------
Port Dover Maple Leaf

It is with deep regret that we chronicle the decease of
Mr. Wm. H. Watts, who for many years was one of the most highly esteemed citizens, passing away at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. J. R. Hipwell, of Alliston, Ont., on Sunday last the 18th inst.

The subject of this brief sketch was born at Bartonville, Ont., on Oct. 16th, 1839, and was married on Nov. 18, 1872, to Miss Mary Ann Milburn, of Simcoe, Ont., who pre-deceased him by nearly five years.

They first settled in Port Dover but soon removed to Simcoe and from thence to Woodhouse township and engaged in farming. He was of a most genial disposition, on whose presence seemed to radiate sunshine and cheer; and doubtless many with whom he came in touch felt the helpful and stimulating influence of his optimistic nature. He made many lasting friendships which was fully evinced by the large attendance at his funeral at Woodhouse cemetery on Tuesday afternoon the 20th inst.

For many years Mr. Watts was a member of the Methodist church, Port Dover, and was associated with the local lodge of I.O.O.F.  The funeral services were conducted jointly by the Rev. Cooke and the officers and members of Norfolk Lodge No. 225, while Lodge No. 171 of Alliston, at which at times he was a most welcome visitor, was represented by Mr. C. R. Knight --Com.
