William Y. Wallace
____

Simcoe and Norfolk County will receive with profound regret news of the passing of Mr. William Y. Wallace, which took place shortly after eight o'clock Monday morning.

Mr. Wallace had been ailing for some time, but his condition was not such as to occasion alarm to his friends.

Last Friday he complained of not feeling well and on Saturday did not come down to his business. Sunday his condition became such as to cause both his physician and family much concern and he grew steadily weaker until the end came as stated above. Heart trouble was the immediate cause of death.

The late William Wallace was the only son of William Wallace and Mary Ann Kent and was born in Simcoe 67 years ago.

His father founded the British Canadian newspaper on January 18th, 1861, and as a young man he entered the office as an apprentice, and upon the death of his father in 1887 took over control of the paper until its amalgamation with The Reformer in August of last year.

Since then Mr. Wallace had conducted a job printing plant and the stationery business which he and his father founded years ago.

The late Mr. Wallace was a man who held the very highest respect of the people of Simcoe and Norfolk. While he never at any time sought to enter into either town or county affairs in an official capacity, he took a lively and public spirited interest in everything that pertained to the welfare of Simcoe and Norfolk, and any project that made for the betterment of the community in which he spent the whole of his life, met with his whole hearted support.

In the social and recreational life of Simcoe Mr. Wallace took a very great interest. He was a charter member of the Norfolk Golf and Country Club, and for many years was one of the golf team's most active players. In the days when Simcoe possessed a curling rink, the great winter game found in him one of the most ardent devotees. In religion he was an Anglican and for long years a member of Trinity Church.

Deceased is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Nina Ferguson, and one son, William. A sister predeceased him many years ago.

The funeral took place this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with service in Trinity Church, conducted by Rev. C. K. Masters. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery.

The following were the pallbearers: Messrs. Geo. J. McKiee,
H. S. Falls, R. G. Bowlby, W. C. J. King, W. L. Innes and
Dr. W. M. McGuire.
