Bandmaster
John Sutton received a letter from D. E. Gilino, who years ago used to
play for him in the 39th Regiment Band. He now lives in Detroit,
Mich., but he still has kindly memories of the 39th.
[Text
omitted.]
He continues...
Earl VanAmburgh, an old Simcoe
boy, is easily the best trumpeter in Michigan. He plays regularly with
the orchestra of the Garrick Theatre, is first trumpeter of the
Detroit Symphony Orchestra, also with Schimmen's City Park Band. He is
in such demand as a teacher that every minute of his surplus time is
occupied at $1.00 for thirty minutes.
His brother Frank is
trombonist in Al Green's Temple Theatre orchestra.
Another brother, Fred, for
many years was clarionetist [sic] with the Pittsburgh Symphony
Orchestra, and is now playing for a big New York theatre.
