The following is a transcription of an article from the 25 Feb 1909 Simcoe Reformer. [Paragraph breaks inserted by the transcriber, the original being a single paragraph.] [Compiler's Comment: The deceased's surname is spelled both with and without a p; his daughter married either Crosby or Crosbie]

Charles Thomson

Charles Thompson, who departed this life Feb. 3rd, 1909, was born at Gifford, Scotland, April 2nd, 1841. His parents then moved to Edinburgh, where he received his earlier education.

He came to Canada in the 13th year of his age to live with his uncle, the late Walter Thompson of Simcoe, where he made his home, finishing his education at the Public and Grammar Schools. He lived in and near Simcoe all his life.

At the age of 21 he was married to Alice Jane Derrickson, eldest daughter of the late James Derrickson, at Simcoe, by the Rev. Edway Ryerse, and about 11 years after united with the Simcoe Baptist church, where his wife was a member and held his membership there until he moved to Walsh, when he became a member of the Walsh Baptist church.

He was a member of Home Circle No. 149, Walsh, being one of the charter members. In politics he was a staunch Reformer, and was ever ready to help in all good works and kind to all.

He was a kind and loving husband and father and leaves to mourn his loss a sorrowing widow, two sons and one daughter, Walter E., of Buffalo, N.Y., James W., of Walsh, and Mrs. George W. Crosbie of Marburg.
