Well-known
residents of Vittoria, Mr. and Mrs. Richard F. Terry will quietly
celebrate the 56th anniversary of their marriage on Tuesday of this
week.
They were married at the bride's home in 1893 by Rev. Alex.
Barclay of Silver Hill and Lynedoch Presbyterian Churches.
They farmed in both Walsingham and Charlotteville Townships and
for a few years. Mr. Terry also brought [sic] livestock for
the late S. L. King of Simcoe.
He also sold Sugar Jack in Canada and the United States prior to
his appointment in November, 1929 as postmaster for Vittoria, a
position he still holds.
Mr. Terry is a son of the late Henry Terry and Phoebe Ferris of
Walsingham and is the last surviving member of a family of seven.
Mrs. Terry was formerly Ida B. Halliday, a daughter of the late
David Halliday and Georgina Evans of Charlotteville.
She also was one of a family of seven and has two sisters, Mrs.
E. M. Knowles and Mrs. W. W. Carroll, both of Carholme, and three
brothers, Howard Halliday of British Columbia and Milford and
William, both in the United States.
Mr. and Mrs. Terry have one son and four daughters living. Milton
Terry and Mrs. W. F. Richardson of Toronto, Mrs. J. Howard Turvey of
Embro, Mrs. Milburn Lake of Galt and Mrs. J. R. Reid of Vittoria;
also 14 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
A son, Otho W. Terry of Simcoe, passed away last November, while
a daughter, Mrs. George D. Collver of Windham, died more than five
years ago. A grandson, Terry Richardson of Toronto, was killed in
action in France in July, 1944.
Mr. and Mrs. Terry are both 79 years of age.
