The Late Benjamin F. Shaw

The demise of one of the old and most respected citizens of the town, Mr. Benjamin Frank Shaw, known to so many relatives and connections as "Uncle Frank," occurred on Sunday, October 13. For the period of three years, Mr. Shaw's health had been gradually decaying, and in January his complaint, cirebosis of the liver, confined him to bed.

Born in Townsend on Jan. 13, 1834, deceased was in his 80th year. He was the son of the late Benjamin Shaw of Townsend. His great-grandfather was the Rev. Jabez Collver [sic], the Presbyterian clergyman of pioneer fame, whose daughter, Freelove Culver [sic], was married to Michael Shoff [sic] in New Jersey, later coming to Norfolk County.

In 1856 Mr. Shaw was married to Miss Mary Maria Book, of Ancaster, who survives her husband. To them were born seven children, three of  whom survive. James F. Shaw and Kinsley Shaw, of Townsend, and Miss Alice Alberta Shaw, of Simcoe.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Shaw made their home in Ancaster for about nine years. They then moved to Townsend, and five years ago came to this town to end their days.

Mr. Shaw had five brothers and three sisters. Two brothers, D. K. Shaw of Townsend, and S. Aaron Shaw of Simcoe, and one sister, Mrs. Shoff of Toronto, are living.
