MRS. JAMES GILKES

St. Williams: Mrs. James Gilkes passed away at her home on Tuesday at 6.30 p.m., January 30, in her 74th year. 

She was the last surviving member of a large family of seven children, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Ross of Silver Hill, formerly of New Brunswick. Her mother, before marriage was Deborah Sipprell. Mrs. Gilkes was born in Silver Hill and married James Gilkes 54 years ago in Waterford. They resided in Silver Hill and raised a family of three children, Mrs. Neil Newman, the eldest daughter, passed away in 1918.

Left to mourn are her husband, a son, Howard Gilkes of London, and a daughter Mrs. Ray Massncar [sic] of Glen Meyer, and one great-granddaughter, Eva Hunt, twelve years of age, who has lived with them since infancy.

They moved to St. Williams 18 years ago. She was an active member of the United church Women's Missionary Society and a Sunday School teacher for several years until her health failed a few years ago.

The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon and interment will be made in Sipprell cemetery, Carholme.
