Jane Porritt Stringer,
eldest child of the late Francis and
Eleanor Porritt, the wife of Henry B.
Stringer of Port Dover, passed away
early on Saturday morning after
a brief illness, which attacked her during the night.
Deceased was born in what was then called Cleaversville, Halton County.
When she was about 12 years of age the family removed
to a farm on the
Lake Shore road, east of Port Dover.
On February 25, 1863, she was married to Mr. Stringer who survives
her. She had three sons,
Francis H., teacher in the local public school
at Port Dover;
Chas. H., accountant, the Clifton Hotel, Niagara Falls,
Ont.; and
H. Lee, accountant, Western branch Miller & Richards, Winnipeg.
Possessed of a wonderful constitution, Mrs. Stringer retained
possession of her faculties practically unimpaired, till the hour
of her
death.
Mrs. Stringer was a sister of Mrs. Lydia Winter of Simcoe, and an
aunt of Mrs. J. E. Austin, Talbot street. Mr. and Mrs. Austin went
to
Port Dover for the funeral, which was held on Tuesday at
2 o'clock, the
services being conducted by Rev. H. J. Johnston, of
the Anglican church.
