JOHN W. POND

A well-known resident of Walpole Township for many years, John W. Pond 
of Hagersville, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. F. Prelipp, 
140 Colborne Street North, Simcoe, on Sunday, in her 81st year.

Born in Walpole on August 25, 1863, deceased was a son of the late Richard Pond and Anna Hoover, pioneer settlers of that township, where deceased resided and farmed for 63 years.

In 1926 he retired and moved to Hagersville and since the first of the year had been living with his daughter here.

His first wife, the former Rebecca Brown, passed away in 1905, while his second wife, formerly Adeline Niell, predeceased him in October, 1933.

Surviving are one son, Hartley C. Pond of Jarvis, and two daughters, 
Mrs. H. F. (Estella) Prelipp of Simcoe, and Mrs. A. (Doris) Gray of Hamilton.

Also left to mourn are six brothers: James R. Pond of Simcoe, 
Wesley Pond of Rochester, N.Y., Nathan R. Pond of Jarvis, 
Ernest Pond of Saskatoon, Joseph Pond of Dunnville and 
Charles Pond of Winnipeg, and two sisters, 
Mrs. John Bain of Windsor and Mrs. John Blake of Saskatoon. 
Another sister, Mrs. Joseph Awde of Hagersville, predeceased him in 1939.

Mr. Pond is resting at the H. R. MacGregor Funeral Home, Simcoe, where service will be held on Wednesday at two o'clock. Rev. Dr. W. J. Mumford of Hagersville United Church will have charge of the service. Interment will be made in Cheapside United Cemetery.

JOHN WILLIAM POND

The funeral of the late John William Pond, highly-respected resident of Hagersville and Walpole Township, whose death took place in Sunday at the home of his 
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Prelipp, Simcoe, following several weeks illness, in his 81st year, was held from the H. R. MacGregor Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock.

Rev. Dr. W. J. Mumford of Hagersville United Church, and Rev. E. W. Brearley of 
St. James United Church, Simcoe, were in charge of the service which was largely attended by friends and neighbors from Hagersville, Jarvis and Walpole Township. 

Relatives also were present from Rochester, N.Y., Dunnville, St. Catharines and London.

The pallbearers were Ivan Awde of Hagersville, A. L. Pond of Simcoe, 
Bertley Brown of Nanticoke, Willis and Howard Harrop and Elvin Pond of Walpole.

The floral bearers were William Awde, Norman R. Graham and J. H. Currie of Hagersville, Frederick Munson of St. Catharines, Leroy and Harold Pond of Simcoe.

Interment was in Cheapside United Chruch Cemetery.

Among the many beautiful floral tributes, which evidenced the high esteem in which deceased was held by a large circle of friends, was a token from the staff of the Massey Harris Co., Winnipeg.

During the service Mrs. C. W. Pond sang a solo accompanied by Miss Meta MacMurchy.
