Scarlet, widow of the late Nicholas R. Mandeville, died on Sunday,
January 13, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Samuel E. Wallace, Lot
13, Concession 10, Townsend Township.
Mrs. Mandeville, who was a
daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Scarlet, was born February
18, 1838, and was predeceased by her husband some 58 years ago and
made her home with her daughter for the past 30 years.
Deceased had the misfortune of
falling and suffered a broken hip, followed by an attack of pneumonia
which resulted in her demise.
Three daughters and one son,
Mrs. Samuel E. Wallace, at whose home deceased had lived recently;
Mrs. Nelson Hall, Townsend township; Mrs. John Wilson, Hagersville,
and James R. Mandeville of Simcoe, are left to mourn.
One sister, Mrs. Melinda Smith
of Bothwell, and two brothers, Henry Scarlet and John Scarlet of
Townsend, also survive.
The funeral was held on
Tuesday afternoon. Rev. R. W. Taylor, pastor of Bloomsburg and Tyrrell
Baptist Churches, officiated, assisted by Rev. Mr. Doherty, of
Hagersville.
Several members of Tyrrell
Baptist Church choir assisted in the singing
and Messrs. Roy Misner and Lloyd Erwin sang a duet.
Much sympathy is expressed for
the bereaved families, especially Mrs. S. E. Wallace, who lost her
husband, Samuel E. Wallace, on December 24th.
The floral tokens were very
beautiful, conveying silent testimony of the love and high esteem of
her many relatives and friends.
The pallbearers were six
grandsons: Arnold Mandeville, Roy Hall,
Arlie Wilson, Charles Hall, Morley Wilson and Lorne Hall.
Interment took place in the
family plot in the Culver Cemetery, east of Bloomsburg.
