Mr. and
Mrs. D. D. Gunton, 97 Kent St. North, Simcoe will quietly
mark their 65th wedding anniversary, 5 Sep 1971.
Mr.
Gunton was born in Woodhouse Township and will be 90 years
old on the same day as his wedding anniversary. He is the
son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John R. Gunton.
Mrs. Gunton,
the former Margaret Church, was born in Jarvis. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Church.
The couple were
married at the home of the bride's parents in Jarvis on 3
Sep 1906. The groom's brother, the late Rev. W. A. Gunton,
officiated for the ceremony.
The Guntons have two
daughters, Mrs. J. E. Smith (Ellen) of Santa Barbara,
California, and Mrs. John Hoover (Mary) of Simcoe. A son,
Harry, died in 1936. There are 10 grandchildren and 25
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gunton was a
building contractor. Among the buildings he built in
Simcoe is the First Baptist Church, of which he is perhaps
the oldest member, since he has been a member for
over 70 years. Mrs. Gunton has been a member of the same
church for 66 years and during that time has been active
in the Dr. Sarah Cook Mission Circle.
Mr. Gunton served
overseas in World War I and has been connected with the
local Armoury ever since. He was fire chief in Simcoe for
15 years.
Mrs. Gunton was a
charter member of the Home and School Association in
Simcoe. She has served on the board of directors for the
Norfolk Agricultural Association.
For many years Mrs.
Gunton has been a member of the Women's Institute and has
served at local, district and area levels as well as on
the FWIO board. She represented the WI on the Norfolk
General Hospital Board for two years.
For a number of
years she served on the Norfolk Advisory board for the
Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
