Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Gunton, 97 Kent St. North, Simcoe will quietly mark their 65th wedding anniversary, 5 Sep 1971.

Mr. Gunton was born in Woodhouse Township and will be 90 years old on the same day as his wedding anniversary. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John R. Gunton.

Mrs. Gunton, the former Margaret Church, was born in Jarvis. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Church.

The couple were married at the home of the bride's parents in Jarvis on 3 Sep 1906. The groom's brother, the late Rev. W. A. Gunton, officiated for the ceremony.

Mr. Gunton was a building contractor. Among the buildings he built in Simcoe is the First Baptist Church, of which he is perhaps the oldest  member, since he has been a member for over 70 years. Mrs. Gunton has been a member of the same church for 66 years and during that time has been active in the Dr. Sarah Cook Mission Circle.

Mr. Gunton served overseas in World War I and has been connected with the local Armoury ever since. He was fire chief in Simcoe for 15 years.

Mrs. Gunton was a charter member of the Home and School Association in Simcoe. She has served on the board of directors for the Norfolk Agricultural Association.

For many years Mrs. Gunton has been a member of the Women's Institute and has served at local, district and area levels as well as on the FWIO board. She represented the WI on the Norfolk General Hospital Board for two years.

For a number of years she served on the Norfolk Advisory board for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
