A lightly edited partial transcription of the Items of Local Interest column on page 1 of the 26 Dec 1918 issue of Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

Another aged resident of this vicinity in the person of John V. Watts of Norfolk Street South, has been moved [sic] by death. For some little time he had been in poor health and Friday breathed his last, have attained his 78th year.

He was born near Otterville, and Mr. H. W. Cook of this town, was a playmate of his in their early years. 
For a long time he conducted a store in Walsh, coming to Simcoe about 11 years ago.

Fifty years ago he was married to Miss Mariette Owen, and Mr. and Mrs. Watts celebrated their golden wedding a few months ago. To them were born three children who survive: Mrs. Wm. Cutting and Mrs. James Myers of Simcoe, and Dr. Fred Watts of Owosso, Mich.

The funeral service was held at one o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. D. A. Moir having charge. Mr. H. W. Cook and five old Walsh neighbors, William Mitchell, 
William Walmsley, N. S. Palmerton, Walter Rollings and James Dyer, were bearers. Interment was made in the Walsh Methodist Cemetery.

Dr. Watts reached Simcoe Sunday morning in time for the last rites.
