A lightly edited item from the Waterford column on page 2 of the 31 Oct 1918 Simcoe Reformer

The death on Friday, 25 Oct 1918, at his home here, of the late Henry Thompson, in his 84th year, removes another of the old pioneer settlers of Norfolk County.

The late Mr. Thompson was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and came to this country about 63 years ago, clearing up several farms in the county and finally settling on the old homestead, near Rockford,
where he continued to live until coming to
Waterford about 10 years ago.

Fifty-seven years ago he was married to Ursula Sinclair, now 80 years old, who came to this country from the Shetland Islands about the same time as Mr. Thompson and lived just east of Port Dover.

This union was blessed by a family of two daughters,
Mrs. W. J. Church of Waterford, Mrs. (Rev.) L. A. Vail
of Scotland, and three sons, John G., and Thomas H. of Townsend Township, and Professor J. M. Thompson
of Joliette [sic], Ill., all of whom, with their mother, are left to mourn his death.

To these sorrowing relatives the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends is extended.

The deceased was a man of sterling worth and unbounded kindness and until a short time ago,
always enjoyed the best of health. A few months ago
he contracted gangrene in this foot and this was the ultimate cause of his demise.

The funeral took place on Monday, 28 Oct 1918 at
2:30 p.m., from his late residence, Main Street, to Greenwood Cemetery. The deceased's pastor,
Rev. H. Caldwell, assisted by Rev. J. B. Moore,
conducted the service.

The pallbearers were the sons and sons-in-law of
the deceased, and a nephew, Mr. Oscar Clark.
