A lightly edited partial transcription of the Port Rowan column on page 3 of the 8 Aug 1918 issue of the Simcoe Reformer.

Mrs. Annie M. Smith, a highly respected lady, who had been a resident of Port Rowan for a number of years, 
died in Hamilton last Friday after a short illness, 
and her remains were brought here on Monday for 
burial, accompanied by her son and only living child, 
C. W. Jaques of Ottawa.

Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Saunders, and was born in the city of 
Hamilton, 62 years ago.

She was twice married. Her first husband's name was 
Mr. Jaques, and to them was born the son mentioned above. Some years after the death of her first husband, she married Wm. Smith, at that time a prominent business man of this village.

Besides her son,, two brothers and one sister survive: John Saunders of Walsingham Centre, 
James Saunders of Ingersoll, and 
Mrs. J. C. Smith of Ashcroft, B.C., 
all being present at the funeral, which 
took place on Monday afternoon.

The service was private and was conducted by 
Miss Templeton-Armstrong at the home of 
Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Franklin. Interment was 
made in the family plot in Bayview Cemetery.
