The
Late John Moffatt, Sr.
John Moffatt, Sr. an old and
highly respected resident of Cultus, died on Sunday, 27 May 1917, in
his 81st year.
He settled on the old
homestead [32] years ago, at which place he died, and also his wife,
Magdalena Sternaman, who predeceased him nine years ago.
He was a member of the
Methodist Church for many years.
He leaves to mourn his lose
five sons and two daughters: James of Paris Ontario, John of Cultus,
Alton of Simcoe, Privates Leslie and Morley Moffatt of the 133rd
Battalion now in France, Mrs. Henry Fishback of Belmont, and Mrs.
Sarah Whiting of Cultus.
The relatives from a distance
attending the funeral were William Moffat [sic] of
Ancaster Ontario, a brother of the deceased; Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Hastie of Holstein Ontario, and Mrs. Charles Reid and Miss Bella
Patterson of Egremont.
The funeral took place on
Wednesday, 30 May 1917, interment being made in Cultus. The services
were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Chapman of Walsingham Centre.
