A lightly edited transcript of a page 3 item in the 1 Oct 1880 issue of the Norfolk Reformer.

Last Tuesday afternoon Thos. Masterton, a young lad about 16 years of age, met with an accident at Fisher's Foundry in this town, which may even yet result fatally.

The boy has been employed for some time back as driver of the engine, and at this particular moment was engaged in oiling a force pump used to convey water to the roof of the building.

In order to do, he leaned in over the drive wheel. His foot slipped, and he fell with his head between the wheel and the belt.

Fortunately, there was only enough steam on to keep the engine going, and it was stopped quickly.

The boy is very badly torn about the shoulders and neck, but may possibly recover if inflammation can be kept off.
